This diagram shows how equity principles, social justice, and the need for increased sexual and reproductive health (SRH) access guided collaboration and development of the 2024 Quality Family Planning (QFP) recommendations. The Office of Population Affairs (OPA) conducted a comprehensive revision of the QFP based on an inclusive and evidence-based approach that prioritizes patients’ own values, preferences, and goals. OPA sought out diverse perspectives, used social justice as the cornerstone, and considered all actions using an equity lens.
Lived Experience Panels and End-user Listening Sessions
- Engage with people who have lived experience to ensure collective experience is prioritized in addition to research
- Expert Working Group (EWG)
Membership: Experts in SRH and equity including providers, public health experts, researchers and advocates
- Role: Recommend updates to QFP based on literature with consideration for equity framework
Visioning Sessions
- Facilitate engagement with a diverse population of end users
- Ensure access and user-friendliness are prioritized
Technical Expert Panels (TEP)
- Membership: Experts on topic areas and persons with lived experience
- Role: Review the quality of evidence and takeaways from SLRs and ESs with consideration for equity framework
Systematic Literature Reviews (SLR)
- Seek to fill existing gaps in contraceptive counseling, education, and care as well as the screening and need for SRH services
- Reviewed by EWG/TEPs with consideration for equity framework
Environmental Scans (ES)
- Seek to fill existing gaps performance metrics, guidelines for core SRH and SRH adjacent services, and innovative service delivery methods
- Reviewed by EWG/TEPs with consideration for equity framework
