Program Summary
Project Name: Central Coast Comprehensive Sex Education Collaborative (CSEC)
Project Overview: Central Coast Comprehensive Sex Education Collaborative (CSEC) is a systems-based teen pregnancy prevention (TPP) initiative with an overarching goal to 1) improve sexual and reproductive health outcomes; 2) promote positive youth development and empowerment; and 3) advance health equity and inclusivity for adolescents, their families, and communities through replication of medically accurate and age-appropriate evidence-based TPP programs in diverse and historically underserved areas. Through CSEC, Planned Parenthood California Central Coast (PPCCC) community health educators will be trained and deployed to underserved areas of the tri-county Central Coast region, delivering evidence-based curricula that targets Latinx adolescents and teens and their families and LGBTQIA+ youth and their families with an integrated lens of positive youth development. Three settings are targeted for the project: 1) educational (afterschool), 2) community-based, and 3) healthcare. Partnerships will be developed to connect with difficult-to-reach populations, including the many immigrant and migrant farmworker families in the area. The project will assess and select at least two evidence-based practices (EBP)-based curricula to implement across the three settings and serve 2,900 participants over 5 years.
