Program Summary
Project Name: Building Community Resilience; Systems Approach to Teen Pregnancy Prevention
Project Overview: Touchstone Health Services will implement the Building Community Resilience; Systems Approach to Teen Pregnancy Prevention project to address: 1) sexual health awareness/education; 2) mental health and emotional regulation; 3) healthy dating relationships; 4) family functioning and communication; and 5) other factors that increase healthy decision-making and reduce the risk of teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the Glendale and Alhambra regions of Phoenix, Arizona. To achieve these goals, the project will include direct curriculum implementation with youth and parents/caregivers using Making Proud Choices, Love Notes, Safe Dates, Active Parenting of TeensTM, and Positive Parenting Program® curricula, professional development training for youth-serving organizations and schools, community education and resource sharing, referrals to mental health and substance abuse treatment, an annual professional conference, and social media and public service announcement campaigns. The project aims to serve 1,700 youth in year one, 5,539 youth in year two, and 5,630 youth in year three for an average of 4,293 youth per year. Additionally, the project aims to serve 200 parents/caregivers in year one and 400 parents/caregivers in years two and three.
