Program Summary

Project Name: Promoting Optimal Health for Rural Youth

Project Overview:  The Regents of the University of California, San Francisco’s Promoting Optimal Health for Rural Youth project will promote the optimal health of youth in rural Fresno County, California by replicating the proven effective sexual health curriculum Positive Prevention Plus and cultivating systemic changes in the community. The project ensures multiple points of contact with youth for sexual health education (in grades 9 and 11), as well as professional development for school staff and local clinics, development of a referral system for services, and educational workshops for parents and caregivers. This multipronged approach will ensure the greatest impact on adolescent health, stimulate sustainable change, and provide a model for other rural communities. The project aims to serve 720 youth annually.
